bmurator Icelandic Pagan Black Metal. Like many others here, I wish I understood these dark tales - all I can do is let myself be transported by the music & what a ride it is! I could not possibly choose a favourite song, they are all so good. I recommend their entire discography!!!

H.L. It is a pity, that I do not understand a word of these dark sagas, but at least I can feel the atmosphere. The mixture of raging and massive black metal and dark choir vocals or storyteller vocals is quite unique and special. Iceland really stands for black metal full of charisma and Árstíðir lífsins is no exception. Favorite track: Morðbál á flugi ok klofin mundriða hjól.
Steely Straits

Steely Straits There is a lot of depth in this band, and attention to detail: the concept, the narration, chanting, recurring motives throughout the album. But they also aren't afraid to sit on a chord for 64 bars.

about

On 26.04.2019, outstanding German / Icelandic metallers Árstíðir lífsins return with their much anticipated 4th album entitled ‘Saga á tveim tungum I: Vápn ok viðr’. Like all previous outputs, the album will be released via German quality label Ván Records on exclusive 2LP, Digipack CD and known digital channels.
Since 2008, the art of Árstíðir lífsins breathes Old Norse history on all levels. Entirely sung in Old Icelandic and twinned with its sister album ‘Saga á tveim tungum II: Eigi fjǫll né firðir’ to be released in late 2019, ‘Vápn ok viðr’ takes you on a journey to the brutal power attempts of (in)famous Norwegian king Óláfr helgi Haraldsson in the early eleventh century as it is portrayed in the vernacular medieval Scandinavian sources.
Musically, Árstíðir lífsins proves on ‘Vápn ok viðr’ once again its ability to produce audial quality: From ambient archaic folklore patterns, supported by dark chants and classical instruments, to both modern and classic Black Metal elements, the musical abilities materialise and teach a powerful lesson in real craftmanship.
‘Saga á tveim tungum I: Vápn ok viðr’ was composed and recorded in Germany and Sweden in early 2018 and mixed and mastered in August 2018 by the experienced hands of renowned producer Markus Stock at Studio E, Mellrichstadt, Germany. As always, the intriguing layout was executed by the highly talented Christopher Duis of 1gemachtes.de. All promotional photography was taken by the equally skilled Rakel Erna Skarphéðinsdóttir.
